A new home for fitness in Wigmore

THE BACKSTORY

As a former Wigmore High School student, I was extremely excited to be approached for some advice on how to best use some grant money the School had secured to spend on the gym as part of the Active Hereford and Worcestershire grant initiative to support schools to open their facilities outside the normal school day to allow young people more opportunities to be physically active.

Kit Williams, my former PE teacher, and I agreed it would be best for me to visit the school and have a look at the space as I couldn’t really remember the gym. I never spent much time in there during school and after popping by to see the space, it was no wonder I didn’t spend much time in there!

The space was a mess with lots of broken equipment making it near enough unusable for students.

FUNK IT UP

After a meeting with Emma the School Business Leader & Kit we agreed we all wanted the same thing; a place where students could build confidence in the gym, learn proper movement patterns and to aid some student’s sports performance. As well as opening it out to the pupils and public for use out of school hours. With those goals in mind we agreed on replicating the Funktional Hereford gym.

Outside of school hours this space will be used by Funktional coaches to deliver personal training and small group sessions, alongside the Hereford gym.

We aren’t far off the finished product and the Wigmore team and I are very excited to bring the students and local community a brand new space for functional training.

Stay tuned here and on Instagram for more behind the scenes.

With the proposed open day of the 6th November I hope you’re as excited as we are!
